In order to enhance recognition of HK pet product industry capabilities and quality image in Asia-Pacific market,
Hong Kong Pet Trade Association Limited (HKPTA) applies successfully on the Trade and Industrial Organisation
Support Fund of the Trade and Industry Department, HKSAR Government, titled 'To enhance the profile of the HK
pet care industry through promoting their product variety and high quality assurance standard in Asia-Pacific Market'.
Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is implementation organization.
The project aims to establish a platform for HK pet product industry, connecting different SMEs in pet product sector and
consolidating the industry's competitive advantages. The project includes a series of B2B promotional activities, establishment
of HK pavilion at trade exhibitions (PetFair SE Asia and Interpets Tokyo), sharing seminars; a video to promote latest developments and advantages of the HK pet product industry and social media advertisement, the project showcases the diversified products and high-quality assurance advantages of the HK pet product industry, assists SMEs in enhancing their brand competitiveness, understanding the demands of the Asia-Pacific market, and establishing connections with potential buyers in the Asia-Pacific region, in order to jointly explore business opportunities and increase industry visibility in the Asia-Pacific market for Hong Kong's pet product SMEs.
Under the influence of pandemic, the desire in pet-owning has increased, pet owners have also increased their knowledge and education in pet care, resulting in higher standards and requirements for pet products. They not only seek to meet their pets' basic survival needs but also satisfy their comprehensive care requirements, such as pet food and supplements (e.g. canned food, dry/wet food, nutritional supplements, snacks, etc.), pet beauty and care (e.g. cleaning products, clothing, etc.), and pet living and travel (e.g. cages and beds, toys, feeding utensils, cat litter, carriers, etc.), the growth trend is particularly significant in the Asia-Pacific market (e.g. South East Asia region and Japan) .
HK, as an international hub, brings together recognized professionals (e.g. pet nutritionists, veterinarians, and biomedical scientists) and a variety of pet types. And as HK pet owners have the highest per capita consumption of pet products in the Asia-Pacific region and have high standards for pet products, HK's pet product companies has leveraged their international trade experience, knowledge of global pet ownership trends, strict monitoring of production and adhere to international testing and certification, in order to provide consumers with a wide range of reliable and safe high-quality pet products, leading to the development of different reputable HK pet product brands.
The pandemic has impacting normal business interactions in HK's pet product exports, there is an urgency for HKSMEs to explore diversified markets. Due to similar pet ownership and consumption habits, as well as relatively favorable market expansion costs in the Asia-Pacific regions, many HK SMEs are eager to expand their business and this project aims promote the industry as well as their diverse, and quality-assured HK branded products into the Asia-Pacific market.
